Why it is important to start a pilot project in the transition to zero-emission transport

What is a pilot project and why is it crucial
A pilot project is a zero-emission test run of one or more vehicles in real-world conditions. It allows us to gain experience that we can’t find out on paper – how the vehicle behaves on specific routes, how the weather affects consumption, what the realistic hydrogen filling or charging times are, and what the operational readiness of the whole solution is.
This is an important step that helps carriers avoid mistakes and investments in solutions that could prove ineffective later.

Five main benefits of the pilot project
- 1. Real traffic data. You’ll get reliable data – from energy or hydrogen consumption, to range, to feedback from drivers and passengers.
- 2. Identification of operational challenges. You will discover constraints early on – infrastructure availability, the need for service support, shift organisation or route planning.
- 3. Lower investment risk. Instead of buying an entire fleet immediately, you check the suitability of the solution with minimal risk and clear data.
- 4. Preparation for legislation and homologation. You will create space to meet technical standards, homologation processes, driver and service technician training.
- 5. Support in obtaining subsidies. The experience and data from the pilot helps when applying for state or European funding, as it demonstrates real readiness.
As a pilot project we are implementing in MIP
At Mobility & Innovation Production, we believe that a pilot project is the most effective way to prepare carriers for the future. We offer a tailor-made drive – from initial analysis to real operation:
- 🔹 Needs analysis and design of the optimal solution,
- 🔹 Choosing the right technology – hydrogen, electric or hybrid,
- 🔹 Integration and delivery of the test vehicle,
- 🔹 technical support during operation and data collection.
Our solutions are tested in real-life operation, for example in cooperation with METRANS, which is testing our hydrogen tractor in everyday logistics conditions.

Pilot project as a basis for the future of the fleet
The pilot is not just about validating the technology. It also provides the carrier with the know-how to build a long-term fleet development strategy. The data from the pilot operation is key to effective decision-making, minimises risks and helps tailor a solution to the exact requirements.
The pilot project is not a waste of time or resources – it is a sensible and safe first step that gives confidence that the investment in zero-emission transport will work in practice.
