Waberer’s presented our hydrogen truck to its clients.
Waberer’s, one of Europe’s leading logistics service providers, presented our hydrogen truck to its clients at a special presentation. This event underlined the growing importance of hydrogen technology in sustainable freight transport. Long-term testing of this vehicle in real operation is planned for the near future.
Waberer’s official press release:
Alternative powertrains are becoming more and more efficient, and Waberer’s group has already had the opportunity to showcase a hydrogen tractor at a public event. The vehicle, developed by Mobility & Innovation Production, represents a milestone in eco-friendly transportation, as the fuel cells allow for significantly shorter refuelling times compared to battery electric vehicles – assuming available infrastructure. They require significantly fewer batteries to operate and now have a longer range.
Waberer’s has been taking steps to reduce CO₂ emissions and optimise the fuel consumption of its fleet for several years, as a result of which it now operates one of the largest fleets of alternatively powered trucks in Hungary.
Waberer’s: Strategic direction towards sustainable logistics
Waberer’s Group has been actively focused on building a sustainable portfolio of services for years. Green logistics and the expansion of the use of alternative powertrains play a key role in the ESG strategy presented in 2023. This includes expanding the fleet of electric light and heavy goods vehicles, the use of alternative fuels and the combination of rail and road transport.
Waberer’s currently operates one of the largest fleets of alternative-fuel trucks in the region and plans to begin long-term testing of its first hydrogen tractor later this year. The move was unveiled at a public event in partnership with Mobility & Innovation Production.
3 million kilometres and 400 tonnes of emissions saved
“We currently have 25 alternative fuel vehicles, including electric vans, trucks and tractors, as well as LNG tractors. This fleet has already driven more than 3 million kilometres, preventing the release of over 400 tonnes of CO₂ emissions. In 2025, we plan to further expand our electric fleet to 30 vehicles while increasing the number of charging stations. In addition, we want to focus on technologically breakthrough alternatives that will not only promote sustainability in transport, but will also be unique in Europe,” said Barna Erdélyi, a member of Waberer’s Group Board of Directors.
Increasing efficiency of alternative propulsion – the future of hydrogen vehicles
Experts point out that electric vehicles are well suited for urban and suburban transport, but battery charging time and limited range still limit their usability. However, rapid technological developments are bringing increasingly efficient solutions, such as hydrogen powertrains.
Fuel cell vehicles have significantly shorter refuelling times than electric vehicles, require fewer batteries and provide greater range.
Mobility & Innovation Production is therefore working with Ford Trucks to develop hydrogen heavy-duty trucks.
“We are the first company to successfully pass the homologation tests for hydrogen HGVs on the European market. This tractor uses pioneering technologies that have not yet been integrated into commercially available vehicles, while meeting the most stringent European regulations,” said János Onódi, CEO of Mobility & Innovation Production.
The hydrogen tractor offers a range of 600-750 km, a consumption of 8-9 kg H₂ per 100 km and a permissible gross weight of 45 tonnes, with water vapour as the only by-product. The first prototype has successfully passed both load and crash tests.
Further reducing emissions through alternative fuels
In addition to expanding its alternative-fuel fleet, Waberer’s is also focusing on reducing emissions from its diesel tractors. Starting in 2023, international operations will use HVO 100, a second-generation biodiesel made from plant and animal waste.
This fuel variant is compatible with diesel engines and reduces CO₂ emissions by up to 90% compared to conventional diesel.
