Why is hydrogen also going into unmanned aerial vehicles?
Unmanned systems are undergoing a rapid transformation. While electric drones with limited range and payload dominate today, new applications in industry, security, logistics or monitoring need higher performance, longer flight autonomy and reliable operation in harsh environments. This is why hydrogen propulsion is starting to come to the fore – a solution that combines high energy density, fast hydrogen refuelling and fully emission-free operation.
TOMARK PROTON’s H2 VTOL project is one of the first in Slovakia to take this technology from concept to reality. And Mobility & Innovation Production is its technology partner.
Our mission: system integration of hydrogen propulsion for unmanned aircraft
TOMARK PROTON has chosen MIP as a partner for the development and integration of hydrogen and electric propulsion into the VTOL platform. This is an example of how we are bringing our long-standing know-how from the development of buses, trucks and special zero-emission drives to a completely new industry – unmanned aerial vehicles.
What is our responsibility in the project?
- 🔹 High pressure hydrogen system design including storage, lines and safety architecture.
- 🔹 Development of hydrogen supply system for fuel cell – complete in-house solution.
- 🔹 Integration of the fuel cell into the H2 VTOL drone platform.
- 🔹 Creation of technical documentation, computer preparation, safety analysis.
- 🔹 Component and system testing, including hardware validation and operational scenarios.
- 🔹 Comprehensive system integration to ensure the compatibility of all subsystems into a single whole.
With this project, we confirm that system integration is not just a service – it is our core engineering competence. We understand the technology, homologation processes, safety and operational needs of end users.
Cutting-edge technology developed in Slovakia
The H2 VTOL project is proof that solutions that push the boundaries of emission-free mobility are being developed in Slovakia. For MIP, this is a natural extension of the portfolio – the hydrogen bus, hydrogen tractor or electric bus have given us experience with high-pressure systems, fuel cells, battery modules and safety standards.
Today, we are translating this knowledge into a completely new platform.
