Hydrogen truck in real logistics: test results with METRANS

Hydrogen mobility is no longer just a vision of the future. The collaboration between Mobility & Innovation Production and METRANS shows that a hydrogen truck can handle the daily challenges of heavy logistics. The joint testing has yielded valuable data directly from real-life operation – from the first runs in June to the final results in August.

From the first runs in June to the final results

In June, a new chapter of cooperation began – the MIP hydrogen truck became part of the standard METRANS logistics for the first time. No test track, no simulator. Just fully loaded containers, a driver and daily operation.

Already during the first days the truck completed several routes:

• ➡️ Dunajská Streda – Malacky with a 10-ton container.
• ➡️ Bratislava – Plavecký Štvrtok with almost 7-ton load.
• ➡️ Dunajská Streda – Bratislava with a load of more than 12 tons.
• ➡️ Routes to Bernolákov and Galanta.
• ➡️ Heaviest load reached up to 19 tonnes.

In the first two weeks alone, he drove approximately 1,500 km. The driver appreciated the quiet cabin, easy hydrogen filling and comfort even on longer routes.

August tests in the toughest conditions

Testing continued during the hot summer months. August tested the technology at high temperatures, but the results were even more convincing:

• 🔹 almost 800 km in fully loaded mode,
• 🔹 costs range from 11 to 21 tons,
• 🔹 routes between Bratislava, Lozorno, Nitra and Plavecký Štvrtok.

The truck has proven its reliability even on demanding routes and at higher weights.

The numbers that say it all

The most important measurement results:

• ▪️ 6.9 kg H₂/100 km in pure hydrogen operation.
• ▪️ 5.7 kg H₂/100 km when using the rechargeable battery option.

These values are among the lowest on record and prove that hydrogen propulsion is already competitive today. Combined with the fast filling, which did not hold the driver back on schedule, this is clear evidence of readiness for logistical deployment.

What we have learned

The cooperation with METRANS has yielded many insights:

• ➡️ hydrogen filling is fast and practical,
• ➡️ even minor incidents, like windshield replacement, confirm that this is a real day-to-day operation, not a lab test.
