Hydrogen technology testing and certification: a look behind the scenes

Testing and certification of hydrogen technologies is a necessary step before they can enter the market. Although hydrogen has great potential for clean transport, without a validated evaluation process, its deployment could jeopardise safety and public confidence. In this article, we’ll show you how we do it at Mobility & Innovation Production (MIP) – thoroughly, professionally and by the book.

Hydrogen technology offers a promising future for emission-free transport. But before they hit the roads, they need to go through a rigorous evaluation process. This includes not only technical tests, but also strict certification under European legislation. At Mobility & Innovation Production, we believe that the right path is through trust, safety and transparency.

Homologation: more than a formality

Developing a prototype is one thing – getting it on the road is another. Many companies are presenting hydrogen vehicles today, but their technology is not homologated. However, this is the key to getting a vehicle on the road. It is an official approval process that confirms that all parts of the vehicle meet European Union standards.

At MIP, we have hydrogen technology testing and certification integrated into every step of development. Our tractor is not only functional, but also fully homologated – ready for real operation.

What all is being tested?

Hydrogen vehicle testing is not just about range. It’s investigating:

  • Vehicle response in a collision (including hydrogen leaks)
  • Resistance to extreme temperatures
  • Behaviour of components under long-term load
  • Pressure and safety tests of hydrogen containers
  • Electromagnetic compatibility

Each component must pass tests for reliability, durability and safety. Testing is carried out in cooperation with certification authorities and independent laboratories, with the results having a decisive influence on the final approval of the technology.

From the lab to the road: real tests with METRANS

The real development doesn’t end in the workshop. At MIP, we’ve gone even further – our homologated hydrogen tractor is now being tested in real-life operation with the logistics company METRANS. We are driving the vehicle with the load in standard traffic, where we are collecting key data on performance, reliability and efficiency.

It is this phase that is particularly important. It allows us to compare laboratory calculations with reality, tailor solutions to the market and verify that our components can handle the rigours of everyday operation.

We do it by the rules

Mobility & Innovation Production prides itself on transparency and professionalism. We are not looking for shortcuts. From the beginning, we have been building on the fact that every solution must be:

– in accordance with European legislation,
– verified by experts,
– tested in practice,
– safe for the driver and the surrounding area.

At a time when many are presenting prototypes without certification, we are already driving – officially and verified.
